Because the US didn’t want another country to get involved as well.

The US wanted to prevent the "Domino Effect" which is where one country becomes communist which then could cause others around it to "fall" to communism. So their involvement was mostly centered around containing the spread of communism throughout Asia as well as the rest of the world.
