Louis Pasteur developed the germ theory of disease, which states that many diseases are caused by micro organisms. Had scientists been skeptical but not open minded about the idea it would not have become a scientific process. This shows that open mindedness is very important to discovery. Open mindedness usually leads to discovery of new scientific ideas.
