Answer: According to Piaget, children come to understand that the volume of a substance remains constant despite changes in its shape during the concrete operational stage.

According to Piaget’s theory there are four different and increasing stages of mental representation which the children undergo on the way to the adult level of intelligence. These four stages are: Sensorimotor period, Preoperational period, Concrete operational period and Formal operational period.

The Concrete operational Stage is the third stage of Piaget’s theory. This stage occurs between age of seven to eleven years of a child and the characteristic of this stage is organized and rational way of thinking. In this stage, the child can use logical thoughts and operations to physical or concrete objects. The child can gain the ability of conservation in terms of number, orientation, area and volume.
