The success of Lenin’s leadership in the Bolshevik Revolution was due in part to fact that he knew what the problems the Russian people were facing.  He was also man of strong personality and will which appealed to the Russian People.  His speeches for reform resonated with the problems that ordinary Russians faced during that time.  He also knew when the right time to strike and this was when Tsar Nicholas II abdicated and provisional government was too weak to address the problems affecting the country.  With the help of the Red Guard, they took power on November 7, 1917.  His promise of giving land, liberty and bread contributed to the growing support of citizens and soldiers who were disgruntled with the war.  After withdrawing from World War I, the Bolsheviks also eliminated their opposition and established a Communist state
