Can someone explain to me how to find if an Algebra Expression is Equivalent to another

First of all, you need to simplify the expressions in order to know whether they are equal. Then, it all depends on the expression, after you simplify an expression, it will seem much easier to determine that.

You simply set them to equal each other and solve!
y=2x+5
y=4x-2
Due to logical assumptions, we can say that 2x+5=4x-8
+8
2x+13=4x
-2x 13=2x
 /2 x=13/2,, or 6.5
