Unlike animal breeders and human geneticists, plant breeders rarely use pedigree charts in their work. Which is most likely the reason that plant breeders use other methods for analyzing results instead of constructing pedigree charts?

Respuesta :

The main reason behind this is that animals and humans have a limited number of offspring in one go which is at most 10 whereas one plant can give hundreds of seeds so each generation will be large in size and very difficult to handle in a pedigree.

Plant breeders do not use pedigree charts because : Plants have more offsprings than animals

Pedigree chart

This is a graphical representation of the phenotypes/genotypes of for an organism ( animal ) in relation to its ancestors. this is used to study the inheritance of genes in organisms allowing  geneticists to determine if a trait is recessive or dominant.

The pedigree chart is not easily applicable by plant breeders because plants have more offsprings than animals and it will be difficult tracing each offspring to its ancestor.

Hence we can conclude that Plant breeders do not use pedigree charts because : Plants have more offsprings than animals.
