The finding that indicates this type anaemia is that the Red blood cells are microlytic and hypochromic. Microcytosis is a term used to describe red blood cells that are smaller than normal. Anemia is when there is low numbers of properly functioning red blood cells in the body. In microlytic anemias, the body has fewer red blood cells than normal that are too small. Microlytic anemias are caused by conditions that prevent the body from producing enough hemoglobin. Hemoglobin being a component that helps transportation of oxygen to the tissues and gives red blood cells their red color. Iron deficiency causes most microlytic anemias.
