How did the north and south differ during the first half of the 1800s?

The north and south differ in the first half because industrialization happened mostly in the Northeast while cotton production excavated the South’s need on slavery. So we can say that South focused on agriculture while the North focused on industries. These two geographical areas industrialized in different ways, generating a complicated political environment.
