Withering is a process in which large rocks are broken down into small particles with the affect of agents like wind and water. These particles are settled either on the same surface or displaced to other locations due to erosion. The older withered particles and heavier deposits being denser in weight settle at the bottom allows more layers to deposit over them. The newly withered and lighter particles remain at the top. These layers gives structure to a soil.
