Why did Jesus tell the apostles to wait for the Holy Spirit?

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. HOPE this helps! :) Brainliest? Thanks! :)

He told them to wait so that they may be empowered by the Holy Spirit to do greater things then Jesus could have done.
