It was the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand and
his wife by Gavrilo Princip who is part of a group called the “Black Hand” that
occurred on June 28, 194. The assassination
was provoked when Austria demanded that the Serbs withdraw from Albania after
defeating the Turks. This assassination triggered
a chain of events that led to the outbreak of World War One. Alliances were
formed and new types of weapons were invented that led to the deaths of soldiers
on both sides and civilians.
