Anna Quindlen discusses the points of view of optimists--those who say we have come out of 9/11 better than we were before--and the pessimists--those who say we live in a cruel and savage world.  After mentioning both sides, she mentions the realists in the following sentence:  "The realists insist that both are right, and, as always, they are correct."
