It is true that the English translation of psalms is written in free verse.
Free verse means that there is no strict structure in the poem regarding the meter. It also means there are no rhymes in the poem, which is the case with psalms in English. When the Bible was translated from Hebrew into English, the translators wanted the poems to be written in free verse, such as here:
Who never gave to wicked reed
A yielding and attentive car;
Who never sinners paths did tread,
Nor sat him down in scorner's chair;
