Total mixture is of 27 pounds , so for other candy it will be (27-x) pounds

Let (27-x) pounds of candy worth $3.74 per pound are used.

So price of (27-x) pounds = 3.74(27-x)............(2)

Quantity of total mixture =27 pounds

price of one pound of mixture = $3.06

Price of 27 pounds of mixture = 3.06 *27 = $82.62........(3)

Price of mixture = Price of first type + price of second type

Using (1) (2) and (3)

$1.45x + (27-x) 3.74 = 82.62$

Now let us calculate x from here,

x=8.02

Now the expensive candy quantity is (27-x) pounds

So quantity of expensive candy = (27-8.02) = 18.98 pounds.
