During the early 19th century, canals improved America the most. One reason why this is the case is because canals helped to significantly reduce the cost of shipping goods across the US. Besides reducing costs, the creation of canals also lead to goods being shipped across the country quicker. These factors allowed businesses to operate smoother and reduced the price of goods that citizens would buy.
