A square is a special rectangle. Its length is equal to its width. The area of any rectangle is the product of length and width, but because those are the same for a square, its area is the square of the side length. (square ... square, do you see any relation?)
Finding a square root is the process of finding a number that multiplies by itself to give a particular result. You want to find the square root of 121, so you will know the value (11) that multiplies by itself to give 121. If you don't already know this number, your calculator will find it for you.
