John Muir, America's most prominent naturalist has foreseen the effects of destruction of trees in response to modernization.
According to him, the following are some of the wrongdoings to trees:
1. Destruction of wilderness
2. Clearing of land for settlements
3. Unprotected forests were exploited for lumber
4. Sheepmen herding their sheep on lush gardens and groves
