I'm thinking that C. is the answer. The Ancient Greeks believed in Polytheism, or the worship and belief in multiple Gods. They used the Gods to explain natural but explainable occurrences such as disease or drought. they feared that if they did not appease the Gods, that they would bring death upon them.
