The greatest land battle during the War of 1812 would be the last battle: the Battle of New Orleans. The battle actually occurred after the war ended, but the word hadn't reached them yet. The US troops were led by a young Andrew Jackson. The British outnumbered the US troops, but the defenses created and with help from the famous pirate, Jean Lafitte, the US was able to win.
