The recent acts of activists intent on destruction of research plots included plants altered by molecular as well as classical genetic techniques. is it possible to distinguish between plants altered by classical genetics and those altered by modern techniques? if it is possible how is it done?

Respuesta :

Some GMO plants have been engineered to be have characteristics not related to appearance, such as drought resistance for example. Therefore, one would not be able to detect between these GMOs and non-GMOs except by examining their DNA. However, other GMOs have been engineered to have physical characteristics that are appealing to consumers, such as exceptionally colourful or large fruit. These GMOs would be easier to distinguish from non GMOs.
