Capitalism has led many countries to an improved standard of living, and media coverage broadcasts information about the wealth capitalist can generate. This, plus the fall of the Soviet Union, has inspired countries to attempt the difficult transition to capitalism.
Essentially, the capitalist model has had a greater track record of success and gets better press coverage. That doesn't mean everything is rosy and wonderful with capitalism, of course. All economic systems have their problems, and abuses and inequities occur often within capitalist systems. But it does have a stronger reputation than competing concepts.
