A client who is recovering from transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) experiences urinary incontinence and has decreased the fluid intake because of the incontinence. What would be the nurse's best response to the client? "If your incontinence continues, we will reinsert your catheter." "Yes, limiting your fluids can decrease your incontinence." "Drink eight glasses of water a day and urinate every 2 hours." "Limiting your fluids will cause kidney stones."

Respuesta :

In this situation the nurse should tell the client to "drink eight glasses of water a day and urinate every 2 hours." Despite the client's urinary incontinence, the client should maintain an adequate fluid intake. If the client maintains a schedule of urinating after every 2 hours, incidences of incontinence can reduce. They should also try and do kegel exercises. This will help to strengthen the sphincter tone.
