The worshiping of ancient Greek gods came to an end gradually from the year 49 AD when the Apostle Paul brought Christianity to Greece. So influential was Christianity in Greece that Antioch, a major center of Hellenistic Greece and the third most important city of the Roman empire became a major hub of Christianity and it was here that the followers of Jesus Christ were first called Christians. When Roman Emperor Theodosius established Christianity as the official religion of the Roman empire in 380 AD, the worship of many gods as a communal or state religion was all but over.
