The most compelling scientific reason not to build offshore wind farms is the impact these wind farms will have on the environment. They are relatively expensive to build and the question that needs to be asked is how long it will take to pay for themselves and then start generating a profit. A more compelling reason not to build wind farms is that there have not been enough environment impact studies to show the impact of these farms on the marine life. It is known that seabirds can fly into the turbine blades; thereby, killing themselves and destroying the turbines.
