Charter Colony is on of the three types of British Colonies (Royal, Charter, and Propriety). Charter Colony were created through private petitions from the king by private companies or groups of settlers. It was established in the 17th century in English Colonies in North America. Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut were Charter Colonies.
