Hey there!
First of all, both sides (US and the Soviet Union) spent a lot of money to try and and outperform the other.
This resulted in Neil Armstrong being the first man to land on the Moon, which was a major United States accomplishment.
But of course, like everything else- people still think it didn't happen.
Additionally, microchips were also created.
Both sides needed to create technology that would once again, be better than the other. Without microchips, we wouldn't have our modern iPad and iPhone. The computing power of a single iPhone was equivalent to that of a major computer which could be the size of a refrigerator and more. People didn't have all the things that the phone had- all combined into one.
Hope this helps!
