Dramatic point of view, also referred to as dramatic irony, is a form of perspective in which the reader (or audience) knows more than the characters themselves about a particular situation. For example, in "Romeo and Juliet," the audience knows that Juliet has merely consumed a sleeping draught to effect necromimesis and fake her death, but Romeo believes she has actually died, and commits suicide with this understanding. The terrible irony, or dramatic perspective, lies in that the audience knows the truth and Romeo remains ignorant. Naturally, by contrast, objective perspective unifies the understandings of the reader (of audience) and characters. For example, in the classic" Star Wars" trilogy, Darth Vader's identity as the father of Luke is only revealed at the moment when Luke himself discovers this truth. The audience may have speculated before, of course, but the moment of ascertainment aligns with the character's own perspective.
