Some of the communication difficulties could be bridged by seeking to find a lingua franca or common language that both parties understand. Such a language could be verbal, symbolic, or gesture based. For example: Sign Language, Morse code, or a root language such as Latin or Greek or Arabic. One way to communicate would be via drawing, pointing, or the use of pictures. I would use a chalkboard or other implement and draw pictures and use body language to communicate. Names, places, and some other information are often universal regardless of the language system, so I would use these pieces of information to help.
Answers will vary but should reflect the barriers to intercultural communication as well as the steps to overcome those barriers.
