The Interstate Commerce Act of 1887 was the first time that the Federal government interfered with business. This particular act regulated the railroad activity during the late part of the 19th century. This was a clear departure from laissez-faire because the government was hands on in regulating the railroad. This was a welcomed surprise by the people, most notably the farmers, who were often taken advantage off by the railroads unfair pricing practices.
