I thought that I knew how to do this, but I think I just figured out the average speed. This is what I did:
400x8= 3200m
13.5/1 x 60sec./1 min= 810 seconds
3200m divided by 810 sec.= 3.95 m/sec
400x8= 3200m
13.5/1 x 60sec./1 min= 810 seconds
3200m divided by 810 sec.= 3.95 m/sec
The formula for velocity is ** velocity = distance / time **.
Since it shows that 8 complete laps were made in a 400m track, you have to multiply 8 to 400m to get the total distance that was completed. And for the time, we have to convert minutes to seconds. Per minute, we have 60 seconds. So you have to multiply 14.5 mins to 60 sec. The equation is provided below:
v = ( 8 * 400m ) / ( 14.5 * 60 sec )
= ( 3200 m ) / ( 870 sec )
v = 3.68 m/s
The correct answer is 3.68 m/s.
