13 - 4x = 1 - x
13 = 1 - x + 4x
13 = 1 + 3x
13 - 1 = 3x
12 = 3x
x = 4

13+(-4x)=1+(-x) add the opposites.
13+(-4x)+x=1+(-x)+x add x to both sides.
13-1+(-3x)=1-1 subtract one from both sides.
12+(-3x)=0-12=-12/-3=4
