What is the area of this figure?

This figure can be divided into two parts
1. A square of side 7 inches
2. A triangle of base 12 inches and height 7 inches
Lets calculate the individual areas and add them up
1. Area of the square = side × side
= 7×7 = 49 sq.inches
2. Area of the triangle = [tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex] × base ×height
[tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex] × 12 × 7
= 42 sq. inches
Lets add up the areas of the square and the triangle
= 49+42 = 91 in²
