Alright now!
According to a couple of texts, it has been clarified as so!
"Readers unfortunately lowered their subscriptions to manual printed newspaper style in exchange for free online news, which was so much easier and advertisers withdrew funding from print editions in favor of worldwide net editions."
Hope this helps!
Also, if this can be brainliest, I'd appreciate it very much!

Answer:
The effects of internet, and especially of virtualization, on the communications media, were as great as they were in other businesses. Basically, with the appearance of social media, and other such media, available at the click of a button, without having to waste time, money, or paper, people began to prefer information that was online, instead of on paper. As such, news that appeared on internet web browsers, news feeds online, and online editions became a rave at the turn of the 21st century because people now prefered all that could be available to them through their phones, laptops, or tablets, instead of them having to use paper.
In the end, publishers were forced to start developing online editions at the turn of the 21st century because people had become used to the immediacy and the speed with which online information reached them, how easy it was to access it, and they also got used to prefering having information on their devices, at the tip of their fingers, rather than having to carry paper around, or wait for paper to reach them.
