Deed Scott who lived in a free state and territory which meant slaves were prohibited was not entitled to his own freedom. “ African Americans can never be citizens” this pushed the country one step closer to civil war.
The case Dred Scott v. Sanford is a case by the Supreme Court in which the court decided that black people were not considered American citizens. The court argued that this was the case even in cases where black people were free.
This case was a result of the actions of Dred Scott, a slave who sued for his freedom in Missouri. This case is considered one of the most important cases in the history of the Supreme Court for several reasons. After it occurred, it received enormous publicity among the American people. Most people deeply disagreed with the decision, and this strengthened the abolitionist movement. It is also considered one of the reasons for the outbreak of the Civil War.
