Stay Alert : Avoid distractions (loud noise levels, playing on phone, etc.) and stay aware. To better hear sirens, it's recommended to keep a window cracked.
Investigate: When you register the sound of sirens, check your mirrors and estimate the speed of the emergency vehicle before planning your next move. When able, pull off to the side while gradually braking. Also consider there may be more than one emergency vehicle approaching.
React: Stay calm and scan all directions before you begin pulling over. Use turn signals and don't slam on the brakes.
Enter: After the vehicle has passed, look in all directions again before re-entering the road.
Never: Never stop in an area without enough room for you to safely pull over. Also, never follow or try to outrun an emergency vehicle.
