Robin Williams Jr.

In 1970, the sociologist Robin Williams Jr, identified ten underlying core values of American society that reflect the American way of life. They are:

1. Equal opportunity
2. Achievement
3. Material Comfort
4. Activity and Work
5. Practicality & Effeciency
6. Progress
7. Science and Rational Thinking
8. Democracy
9. Freedom
10. Group Superiority

The individual responsible for identifying these values was Robin Williams, who was a professor at Cornell University for nearly 60 years and was head of the department of sociology there. His work focused on core values and he was also a pioneer in studying the impact of race on American society.
