The basic point on which the president and Dr. Hutchins disagree is that of human nature. The president takes a rather rosy view of mankind. He is inspired by democracy and the arts. Hutchins on the other hand is jaded from his experiences in the war. He sees humans as only animals, made of flesh and blood.
