Distribute. 

-5x+12x+27= 83 (two negatives equal a positive) 

Combine like terms.

7x+27= 83

Subtract 27 from both sides.

7x= 56

Divide 7 into both sides.

x=8

Divide by -3
-4x-9 = 83/3 + 5/3x
Subtract 5/3x
-4x -5/3x -9 = 83/3
Add 9
-17/3x = 110/3
Multiply by 3
-17x = 110
Divide by -17
X = 6 and 8/17
