The 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry  Regiment was an infantry regiment consisting of African American enlisted men, commanded by white officers.

An infantry regiment is a branch of an army that engages in military combat on foot ( foot soldiers ).

The 54th Regiment fought in the Union Army during the American Civil War. It was the second African Americans regiment, following the First Kansas Colored Volunteer Infantry Regiment.
