PLZ HELP!!!!
In a population of plants, the allele for long stems (S) is completely dominant over the allele for short stems (s). If 35% of the population has short stems, calculate the percentage of the population that is expected to be heterozygous (Ss)

Respuesta :

65% would be heterozygous. Because S is a dominant allele, it means that heterozygous plants would have the S allele and be long stemmed. The 35% short stemmed would be homozygous (ss).

48% is your answer

Don't ask me how I know I just looked at some practice Q's and found the pattern to getting the answer.

√q^2 =√0.35

q=0.59

1-0.59=0.41

2(0.41)(0.59)=0.48 boom theirs the answer

p^2 + 2pq + q^2 = 1 , p+q=1 these are the formulas I used

  * Frequency of homozygous dominant alleles = p^2

  * Frequency of heterozygous alleles = 2pq

  * Frequency of homozygous recessive alleles = q^2
