A number of activities were taking place during the time when the Wealth of Nations was being published. The compilation of the book took seventeen years of observation by the author as he wanted to get the right course of events which were taking place during the time. Generally, the key even which was taking place during this time was the industrial revolution which was mainly taking place in most European countries. Other topics which were part of this industries revolution where the issues of division of labor and specialization, increased productivity and also increased popularity of he free market philosophy.
