First you will want all the j variables on one side, and you'll want to simplify it. Additionally, I like to change subtraction to addition of the opposite.

2.25 + (-11j) + (-7.75) + 1.5j =  0.5j + (-1)
-5.5 + (-9.5 j) = 0.5j + (-1)
-5.5 + (-9.5j) + (-0.5j) = -1
-5.5 + (-10j) = -1
-5.5 + 5.5 + (-10j) = -1 + 5.5
-10j = 4.5
-10j/-10 = 4.5/10
j = -0.45 assuming that 7.75 was added to 1.5 j

we have

[tex] 2.25 - 11j - 7.75+ 1.5j = 0.5j - 1 [/tex]

Solve for j

Group terms that contain the same variable, and move the constant to the opposite side of the equation

[tex] 2.25 - 11j - 7.75+ 1.5j = 0.5j - 1\\ 11j+0.5j-1.5j=2.25-7.75+1\\ 10j=- 4.5\\\\ j= -\frac{4.5}{10} \\ \\ j=-0.45 [/tex]

therefore

the answer is

[tex] j=-0.45 [/tex]
