Scientists count a species population by first knowing the population in a certain area or small geographical sample location then multiply the result by the total area. This method is often used by scientists while conducting a study of any species .

Answer:

Explanation:

A population comprises of all organisms belonging to a common species, these organisms live in one place at same time. It is not practical to count all the members of the population as the population can be so large. Animal population is difficult to count because animals dislocate from places to places in search of food, shelter and for other needs. They may live underwater or may remain active at night. For the purpose of counting, scientists take data from just a small portion of the population, this process is called as sampling. Scientists usually take several samples from the same location and then they take an average of all the samples so as to calculate and estimate the entire size of the population of species in that particular location.
