It is known as the New France. The French settled there subsequent to discovering Quebec and in doing as such made New France. The settlement was most profitable for its hide exchange. France lost the state amid the French and Indian War and it turned out to be a piece of British North America, with the exception of the western piece of the Louisiana Territory which France had surrendered in 1762 to the Spanish Empire. In 1800 Spain restored that region to Napoleon, who sold it to the United States in 1803.
