The defenders of the constitution's primary arguments are always that it is in place to not only protect the citizens but to ensure that there is never a totalitarian authority in which the government has become too powerful and maintains the power in the hands of the citizens. The critics however claim that is has to be re-written or revised since times have drastically changed since it's introduction and it is no longer as applicable.
