The author acknowledges that this story is untrue but is a lively and popular tale because the best history is often trumped by a good story. He goes on to discuss that many of the people who called Virginia home wanted a great story to explain the history of the state and how it came into existence. He believes that the legend of Pocahontas appealed to these people more than the truth of the actual history would have.
