Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), a federal program in high school sponsored by the United States of America. This program was initially created as part of the National Defense Act of 1916 and expanded under the ROTC Vitalization Act of 1964.
JROTC's purpose, as stated in United States Code Title 10 Section 2031, is "to instill in students in US secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, and personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment"
Each cadet must hold the following objectives:
* develop citizenship and patriotism
* develop self-reliance and responsiveness to all authority
* improve the ability to communicate well both orally and in writing
* develop an appreciation of the importance of fitness
* increase the respect for the role of the U.S. Armed Forces in support of national objectives
* develop a knowledge of team building skills and basic military skills
* take 3-4 years of the course that grants cadets the ability to rank higher if they pursue a military career.
