On planets with an atmosphere, the amount of atmosphere around a planet moderates its temperature. The earth, for example, is an example of such a planet. The atmosphere traps in heat that is absorbed from the sun, which helps to warm the planet. Any planet that has an atmosphere will experience the same type of effect.
