The Dominican Republic is located on an island in the Caribbean. It lies to the west of Haiti, which is on the same island. The closest neighbor to the Dominican Republic to the east is the island of Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is on its own isolated island, and it lies fairly close to the Dominican Republic.
