Synapsis, also called syndesis is the process of pairing between homologous chromosomes during meiosis. The exchange portions of their chromatids enables pairing of homologous chromosomes prior to their segregation and chromosomal crossover. This takes place during prophase I of meiosis and this process is perilous for accurate segregation of the chromosomes.
